Phurbas, also known as kilas in Sanskrit, hold significant ritual importance in Tantric or Vajrayana Buddhism. Originally employed in non-Buddhist sacrificial ceremonies involving animal offerings, in the Tantric Buddhist context, they serve as a representation of the enlightened wrath of all Buddhas, capable of "cutting through aggression." A prominent Tantric deity among Tibetans is Vajrakilaya, who wields a "cosmic phurba" in his hands, employing it to liberate sentient beings from their afflictive emotions.
Iron phurbas are highly desirable among practitioners. They are second only to meteorite!
